Texas to a T – Dinner

In previous years, Goat Rock has held a Father’s Day Brunch to celebrate all the great Father’s out there.  This year however, we will not be holding a Brunch for Father’s Day, instead we have a Camp Oven and Spit Roast Dinner on Saturday 17th September 2011.  This will be a great night of fun and entertainment for all.  We have a busload of visitors from the Coast on their ‘Texas to a T’ tour, this is a fantastic opportunity to meet some great new people and show them just what Texas is made of!

Friends from afar visit Goat Rock once again

On Friday 11th February, a Canadian tour group arrived in Texas for their annual visit.  During the weekend they dined at B-Jays Steakhouse, visited the Coventry’s farm “Coomooroo” for an informative tour, learned about our local feedlot “Whyalla”, visited the Texas Heritage Centre & Tobacco Museum, had a shearing demonstration and looked out over the Dumaresq Valley from Goat Rock.

Saturday evening they enjoyed a delicious three-course spit roast and camp oven meal at The Shed at Goat Rock.  Locals joined in the festivities and a great night was had by all.  Entertainment was provided by bush band, The Rabbit Trappers and bush poet, Jim Brown.  The Texas Historical Society held a Charity Auction and raised much needed funds.  The Texas P & C held a Bar to raise funds also.

This is just one of the many events held at Goat Rock throughout the year.  Many thanks to our keen supporters, also our English backpacker friends, Ben and James, for helping out, as well as all the other helpers and our expert Camp Oven cook.  Keep an eye out for more great upcoming events.

Snow at Goat Rock!

Ron Schmidt dishing up dinnerPeter carving the scrumptious Baked HamOn Sunday the 4th July, a number of people enjoyed a delicious four course meal for Goat Rock’s annual Christmas in July celebrations.  Locals and visitors alike booked in, with a Brisbane family visiting the area dropping in on the day to join the festivities.  The day turned out to be a gorgeous sunny winter’s day, after a great frost!

Piping hot soups, roast beef, roast pork, roast turkey, baked ham and baked vegetables were on the menu as well as the traditional favourites, plum pudding and custard, pavlova and trifle for dessert.  The meal was enjoyed under a roof of snowflakes and surrounded by decorated Christmas Trees with a background of Christmas Carols.  All who attended had a fantastic time with most staying til late in the afternoon.  All guests received a small snowflake memento to commemorate Goat Rock’s annual transformation into a winter wonderland.
